August 1, 2000 If we accept that "truth is the first victim of war", then misinformation that fans the flames is certainly a hate crime. We will make our case by presenting evidence of willful misinformation and the resulting consequences. U.S. media knowingly misrepresented the Yugoslav civil wars to the American people as acts of Serb aggression, and to amplify the effect, often showed Serb victims as Croats and Muslims brutalized by Serbs. When it became obvious that the U.S. was taking sides and getting involved in the conflict, I wrote numerous letters to Washington; the replies prove that the media had a decisive influence. Heresay is not taken into evidence in U.S. courts, yet without due process, U.S. lawmakers carried on a political campaign against the Serbs. For a quick reference below are some of the replies, and on the pages that will follow we will present our case. Boris Pribich, founder Please take notice of the language in some of these letters and how it reflects what we all heard and saw. We included letters that have little or no evidentiary value strickly to demonstrate how some lawmakers viewed the conflict. Our effort must and will succeed, because justice is and always has been on Serb side - the reason that justice failed the Serbs is because no one enforced it.
