NEW YORK, NY, NOVEMBER 5, 1999 -- Rabbi Arnold E. Resnicoff, a Navy captain and the chief armed forces chaplain in Kosovo and command chaplain for the US European Command will deliver the 1999 fall Jack and Lewis Rudin Lecture, "Kosovo and Beyond: Can Religion Be the Solution Instead of the Problem?" on Wednesday, December 1 at 7 pm at the Jewish Theological Seminary. As command chaplain for the US European Command (USEUCOM), Captain Resnicoff is principal adviser on religion, ethics and morals to General Wesley K. Clark, the EUCOM commander in chief. A frequent traveler to Kosovo, Bosnia, Macedonia and Albania, Rabbi Resnicoff has visited US and NATO troops involved in peace operations in the Balkans, and has worked to raise awareness among military and civilian leaders regarding the role of religion as a cause of war versus its potential for conflict resolution and reconciliation. In 1998 he led a delegation representing the four officia lreligions of Bosnia--Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Islam and Judaism--on a visit to the Pentagon in order to support an initiative to create a chaplaincy for military personnel as a step toward communication and cooperation across ethnic and religious lines. Captain Resnicoff, who holds a master's degree from the Naval War College in strategic studies and national security affairs, was ordained at JTS in 1976. The lecture is open to the public, free of charge. No tickets are necessary, but reservations are required. The Rudin lectures provide the opportunity for eminent professors, religious leaders, intellectuals and public figures to present addresses on topics of interest to the JTS community and to the public at large. The Jewish Theological Seminary, located at 3080 Broadway at 122nd Street, is the spiritual and academic center of Conservative Judaism worldwide. exposing crimes against humanity www.SerbianDefenseLeague.com www.CompuSerb.com/SDL |
